Here are answers to the questions our team gets asked the most!

Will I be cold?

The river temperature is always pretty fresh, between 9 and 23°C. We take the temperature daily and communicate it to our guests on our outside boards.

During the nautical activities we offer, you are sure to get wet, even if less than 5% of paddlers actually flip during the descent. If you tend to be cold, wearing a wetsuit, available to rent here or your own, is a great solution to stay comfortable all day.

Please consult the temperature forecast for the day of your activity and plan your clothing and gear accordingly. Always prefer synthetic (fleece, polyester, nylon) and wool to cotton. If there are chances of precipitations, bring along a raincoat or windstopper jacket.

Can I access the river without a boat?

On Cime Aventures campground, you will find two river access: the wharf and a descent to the river shore by yurt #3 .

Access to the river is free, but there is no lifeguard on site and therefore, the use of these accesses are at your own risk.

Please use an eco-friendly sunscreen (without nanoparticles) for the respect of the habitat of the Atlantic salmon. We sell such sunscreen at the front desk!

Note that ZEC de la rivière Bonaventure has decided to prohibit swimming in 22 of the 98 pools on  the river. There are signs to inform you of the prohibitions, please respect them as the ZEC can issue statements of offence.

Is there a playground?

The playground is situated by the Wagamet auditorium. There are 9 modules for children 2 to 12 years old. Parent supervision is required at all times.

  • If someone taking the bus at the same time is allergic to animals, schedule changes may be necessary.
  • Pet excrement must be placed in a bag and then kept until the end of the journey where there are garbage cans. There is no trashcan on the river. Please be mindful as the Bonaventur is a prestine water river and you can help to keep it this way.

Is the running water on the campground drinkable?

All our sites and accommodations have running water that comes from an artesian well that has been successfully tested twice a month in accordance with Quebec drinking water standards. This well is awaiting accreditation by the Ministry of the Environment. Until then, “non-potable” signs must be affixed to each of the water outlets on the site, but no anomalies have ever been detected during regular tests. Certified drinking water is available at the Wagamet community room, near the reception and in the courtyard near the main toilet block.

How come is the water so clear?

Wagamet (Oua Ha Mout) is the Mi’qmak name for the Bonaventure River and means “The wave is clear”.

The river that you will have the chance to descend is among the clearest in the world and owes its clarity to the fact that it has its source in the remote and wild environment of the Chic-Chocs mountains. Since the river bed is made up of limestone, very few suspended particles end up in the water, unlike rivers with sandy bottoms.

To protect the river and the Atlantic salmon that call it home, we ask that you:

  • Use sunscreen without nano-particles, therefore with a physical and non-chemical screen. It’s better for your skin and the environment. Available for sale here.
  • Tie all your belongings in the boat and bring all your garbage, including your cigaret butts.
  • Use the existing sanitary facilities on the river

Is there electricity on the campsites?

Limited electricity

We have a few sites with 15 amp electricity. It is a limited amperage which does not allow the simultaneous use of several electrical appliances (heating, toaster, microwave, air conditioning, etc.). In case of overload of the circuit (if the breaker jumps), come and tell us at the frontdesk and we will restart it. If you redo what you were doing when the overload happened, it will happen again.

Is it cancelled if it rains?

It is very rare that Cime Aventures cancels a departure because of the weather. Our activites take place when it’s raining or when there are chances of electrical storm. Conditions that would cancel our activities are : excessive fload, hurricane or risk or tornado.

If you want to be able to cancel depending on weather, consider purchasing our cancellation insurance for 10% of total reservation. The insurance allows you to cancel or report (if available) up until 5PM the day before your arrival.

At what time can I check in?

You can take possession of your accommodation or campsite at 3:00 p.m. at the earliest.

Our team does its best to clean all accommodation units between 11:00 and 15:00. If the accommodations are ready before, we will be happy to let you settle in early.

You must leave your accommodation by 11:00 on the day of your departure. Failure to respect the departure time will incur additional charges.

What if I miss the bus?

Our departures leave on time with punctual people. You must be there 45 minutes before your departure for the Famous tour and the Early Bird tour, as well as all canoe-camping shuttles. Our daily shuttle for people with personnal boat leaves at 4:30 p.m. and will not wait either. If you arrive at or after the shuttle’s departure time, the shuttle will leave without you and without possibility of refund.

For the return shuttles of the Family tour, no one will be left behind: the patroller closing the river ensures that all participants are out of the river.
